Money And Markets THE STOCK EXCHANGES

Less Inquiry For Government Stocks

Quotations were:— GOVERNMENT DEBENTURES

SYDNEY J (Received May 2, 9 p.m.) < SYDNEY, May 2. 1 Price movements on the Stock Exchange today were mostly within narrow limits, c The general tone of the market was firm j

On the Invercargill Stock Exchange yesterday morning there was not the same inquiry for Government Stocks that has been noticeable lately. The market for this line was quiet, but steady. A better inquiry came for bank shares, but little change in price was noticeable. The insurance section was dull. No change was noticeable in the price for Frozen Meat Companies’ shares. Some of the Australian industrial companies’ shares were easier and there was no change in the price of New Zealand concerns. Brewery companies’ shares were steady. The market for most of the Australian mining companies’ scrip was an easier one.

MELBOURNE The Stock Exchange market is generally quiet. Industrials are irregular and there is little interest in mining shares. Sales:—
