BUILDING BOUGHT BY STATE

USE FOR BROADCASTING CONTEMPLATED (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. At a price understood to be near £30,000, the National Broadcasting Service has purchased from the A. R. Harris Company Ltd. a building in Gloucester street, between Manchester street and Latimer square, at present occupied by the company and Stations 3YA and 3YL and land at the rear of the building. More buildings on the vacant land are projected, however. . When The Press communicated with Professor J. Shelley, Director of Broadcasting, in Wellington by telephone this evening, he said: “We shall not be doing any extensions for some time. That is a matter for future planning. The use of the whole building for broadcasting purposes depends on the tenancies.”
