WOMEN’S DIVISION

WAIKOIKOI BRANCH The annual meeting of the Waikoikol branch of the Women’s Division was held in the hall. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance. The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mrs W. J. McKenzie; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Robertson, J. McCall and S. Bruce; secretary, Mrs D. McCall; delegate to provincial conferences, Mrs D. McCall; Press correspondent, Miss J. Lindsay; advisory members, Mesdames J. McCall and McKenzie. At the monthly meeting the secretary reported that the afternoon held in the hall as a special effort in aid of the community chest special fund, had been very successful, and the branch had forwarded its quota. The competition for the May meeting is “Three best cooking apples.” The “six best potatoes” competition resulted: Miss A. Simmers 1, Miss A. Bruce 2, Mrs S. Bruce 3. A competition “Peeling a potato blindfold,” proved that members were competent potato-peelers. The prize-winners were: Mrs D. McCall 1, Miss J. Crawford 2, Mrs W. J. McKenzie 3. CROOKSTON BRANCH At the annual meeting of the Crookston branch of the Women’s Division ■ officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs J. Fleming; vice-president, Mrs J. Adam and Mrs K. Sim; secretary, Mrs A. Bathgate. Miss M. Fleming was first in points for competitions during the year. The competition for the month, “Best hot water bag cover,” was won by Miss M. Fleming. Mrs J. Fleming was first in the best bloom competition. PYRAMID BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Pyramid branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the school. Mrs J. Stewart presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. In a “motor-car” competition Mrs H. Slocombe proved to be the winner and was presented with a cup, saucer and plate, donated by Miss A. Heffernan. At the annual meeting, the secretary reported a credit balance of £1 10/7, which was considered very satisfactory for a new branch. Mrs J. Stewart gave a summary of the various meetings held during the year and gave a talk on the aims of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs J. SOUTH HILLEND BRANCH At the annual meeting of the South Hillend branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs C. Wilson presided. 1 hi moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the president, who did not seek re-election, thanked all members who had assisted the branch in any way during the year. The branch had not been called upon to assist any local distress but donations had been given to the Victoria Home and for Christmas cheer for the Makogai lepers. The balance-sheet disclosed a very satisfactory credit balance. The aggregate prizes were awarded as follows:—Open competition, Mrs C. Wilson 1, Mrs Muir 2. Best bloom, Mrs Kirkwood 1, Mrs Heenan 2. Open competition (single women), Miss J. Pliin- . kett (special prize donated by Mrs Houston). Mrs Muir and Mrs James Kean donated the prizes for the best bloom. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs W. Langford; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Kirkwood, C. Wilson, Dykes, Muir, Rabbitt and Cunningham; secretary and' treasurer, Miss Kelly (re-elected); advisory members, Mesdames C. Wilson and A. Heenan; hon. auditor, Mr M. Geddes. GORGE ROAD BRANCH When the Gorge Road branch of the Women’s Division held its annual meeting, Mrs J. Manson presided over a good attendance of members. Commenting on the balance-sheet, she said that it showed, a very creditable balance. She thanked all the members for their help and co-operation during her term of office. The election of officers resulted: Mrs Swale (president), Mrs A. Knight (secretary), Mrs Kevern, Mrs W Ryan, Mrs Monteath, Mrs Hamill (vice-presi-dent), Mrs Beck and Mrs Swale (advisory members); social committee, Mesdames Young, H. Ryan, Hamill and C. Manson; competition secretary, MrsHamill. WAIKIWI BRANCH The Waikiwi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held a bring and buy sale in the -Waikiwi Hall.
