SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 25. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by th« Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Strong north-west to west or at times south-westerly winds. Weather squally and changeable, with intermittent rain. Temperatures warm, seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect from Taranaki southwards and in the southern portion of the South Island, with some intermittent rain and some heavy falls elsewhere. Mainly fair to cloudy, but with occasional scattered rain, more especially in the high country. Thunder probable at isolated places. Temperatures still warm. General Situation.—A deep and widespread depression extends from eastern Australia across the Tasman to beyond the South Island, pressure being lowest over the southern portion of the Tasman. Winds.—Moderate to strong northerly to westerly, reaching gale force at times south of New Plymouth and Na. pier, and backing temporarily in placet to south-westerly. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong north-west to westerly winds of gale force in parts of the central and southern portions, later backing to south-westerly in the latter area. Seas rather rough to rough.

A cool southerly breeze blew for most of the day and late in the afternoon light rain began to fall, but it did not last long. The wind died down in the evening which was pleasantly mild.
