INCREASED COSTS IN BUSINESS
“SERIOUS POSITION WILL BE CREATED” The serious effect increased costs generally were having on all classes of business was mentioned by Mr G. E. T. Dorman at a meeting of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce yesterday. Mr Dorman said that the position was becoming so serious that it was time the Associated Chambers took the matter up. “In view of the heavy taxation and the probability of no reduction a serious position in business is going to be created sooner or later,” he added.
Mr A. le H. Hoyles said the matter was not one for the Associated Chambers. The Manufacturers’ Federation already had taken the matter up. It had not been lost sight of. On the suggestion of the president (Mr J. H. Reed) it was agreed that Mr Dorman prepare a motion for discussion at next meeting of the chamber.
