THE WEATHER
INTERMITTENT RAIN EXPECTED (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 24. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong winds from between north and west prevailing and reaching gale force at times in exposed positions. Weather cloudy overcast, with intermittent rain. Temperatures warm. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair to cloudy at first in eastern districts north from Canterbury, but otherwise unsettled with rain at times in most districts and some heavy falls in those with a westerly aspect. Temperatures warm.
General Situation.—The recent anticyclone is passing away eastwards and an extensive depression covers the Tasman. The pressure is very low from Tasmania to southern New Zealand.
Winds. —North-easterly in the far north, elsewhere northerly to northwesterly, and later backing in places to westerlies, force moderate to strong generally and rising to gale force at times in places about and south of Cook Strait. '
Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, strong winds from between north and west, reaching gale force in places, seas becoming rather rough to rough in the northern portion and rough in the central and southern portions.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was hot and sultry. The sky was clouded and a strong north-west wind blew for the greater part of the day. At one o’clock this morning -the weather was hot, and the sky clouded. There was no wind.
