“SIT-DOWN” STRIKE AT REFORMATORY
PRISONERS FAIL IN ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE NEW YORK, February 16. After an unsuccessful attempt by 300 men to escape 1000 prisoners at the Concord reformatory, Massachusetts, are conducting a “sit-down” strike, refusing to leave their cells. Two hundred guards and 26 troopers, equipped with machine-guns, riot guns and tear gas, are on 24-hour duty.
