PARASITES IMPORTED
Packed several weeks ago at Moorestown, New Jersey (U.S.A.), a consignment of 22,000 parasites, to be released on Goulburn Valley orchards in Australia to combat Oriental peach moth, has arrived at the Commonwealth Research Laboratory at Mooroopna. The parasites, which are contained in the bodies of peach-moth larvae, include varieties native to Japan, the United States, and Europe, and were shipped from New York in cold storage to prevent their maturing prematurely. At Sydney they were placed in cold storage for a time, so that their emergence would coincide with the second brood of peach moth. The parasites i will be released in colonies on the orchards as they emerge from the larvae. The officer in charge of the work (Mr G. R. Helson), who packed the parasites in the United States, returned to Australia in time to take the consignment off the Sydney express at Banalla.
