ITALY PROPOSES JEWISH STATE
“NOT IN PALESTINE”
ANTI-SEMITIC PROGRAMME DENIED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received February 17, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 17. The Rome correspondent of The Daily Telegraph says that a publication by the Foreign Office states that the Government has no intention of taking political, economic or moral measures against the Jews except those hostile to the regime. It blames foreign newspapers for false rumours about the Jews’ position and adds: “The Government believes that the Jewish problem can be solved only by the creation of a Hebrew State, but not in Palestine. This State, by means of diplomatic and consular agents, would watch over the interests of Jews living elsewhere.”
