VISITING MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

WELCOME AT LUNCHEON IN WELLINGTON (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 17. Three Empire members of Parliament who are visiting New Zealand after attending the Empire Parliamentary Conference at Sydney arrived in Wellington today and were welcomed by members of the Government and the secretary of the New Zealand branch of the association (Mr C. M. Bochamley). The visitors are Dr Hugh Dalton, Labour M.P. for the Bishop Auckland division of Durham, LieutenantColonel A. R. Gordon, M.P. for East Down, Northern Ireland, and Mrs Gordon, and Mr G. P. Steyn, M.P. for Willowmere, South Africa. , The visitors were met by the Minister of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser) and Mrs Fraser, the Minister of Finance (the Hon. Walter Nash), Mr Ormond Wilson,. M.P., and Mr Bothamley A visit was paid to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon M. J. Savage) and later the visitors were entertained to luncheon by members of the Nevi Zealand branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association. Also present at the luncheon was Sir Howard D’Egville, secretary of the association. The value of interchanges of visits by representatives of British Legislatures was emphasized by speakers at Ihe luncheon. The Speaker of the Legislative Council (Sir Walter Carncross) presided in his capacity of jointpresident of the New Zealand branch of the association. A welcome was accorded the visitors by Mr Fraser, who deputized for the Prime Minister. New Zealand, he said, would be more than delighted to receive a full representation of the association from every country of the British Commonwealth on the occasion of its centennial in 1940. An invitation was being extended to the association to hold a conference in the Dominion in that year. It was hoped that the invitation would be accepted.
