GENERAL NOTES The mine sweeper attached to the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, the Wakakura. left Bluff for Dunedin yesterday morning. ' The Union Steam Ship Company s motorvessel Waiana finished discharging wheat and sailed yesterday afternoon for Dunedin. The Ben Line’s steamer Benledi arrived at Bluff from Timaru yesterday afternoon. The Benledi. which left Yokohama on January 7 for Picton, will load wool here and is expected to sail on Monday for Dunedin; thence to London. The Blue Star Line has received cabled advice that its motor-ship Brisbane Star left Liverpool last Saturday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland- on March 15. Cabled advice has been received by the Port Line that the Port Sydney, en route from New York, Philadelphia, Newport News and Kingston, to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, cleared Balboa on Monday. She is due at Auckland on March 7. The Government motor-ship Maui Pomare arrived at Wellington on Wednesday from Lyttelton to complete discharge of her fruit from Apia and Niue Island. She is to leave there again on February 22 for Apia and Niue to load again for Lyttelton and Wellington. Cabled advice has been received by the Union Company that the Kekerangu, from Stenhouse Bay and Port Lincoln, left Melbourne at mid-night on Monday for Auckland, where she is due next Monday. The German steamer Dessau, en route from New Orleans, is due at Auckland on March 6. She will later complete discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. LONDON’S SHIPPING During the week ended December .31, 857 vessels, representing 844.874 net register tons, used the Port of London. Of these, 453 vessels (686,355 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports, and 404 vessels (158,519 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included six meat cargoes—three . from Australia, and three from South America, comprising 115,000 carcasses of lamb and mutton, 111,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits and sundries. Figures for the first nine months of 1937 show that the volume of goods discharged, loaded and transhipped amounted to 32,645,058 tons, an increase of 918,972 tons, compared with the first three-quarters of 1936.
