RETURNED SOLDIERS PLAN FOR BOWLING GREEN At the fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association Mr S. Paterson presided over the following members: Messrs J. McDonald, P. R. Stewart, J. McQueen, T. Rusbridge, E. J. Columb, A. L. McDowell, T. Fyfe, F. M. Murr ray, A. C. Steel, M. Green, C. M. Wilson and G. L. Gergen (secretary). A motion of sympathy was carried with Mr W. Shave in the death of his sister. One new member was elected to the association. The secretary reported that the financial membership now stood at 410, compared with 405 last meeting night and 437 for the same period last year. In the membership competition between the Mataura and West Otago sub-associations West Otago was leading with 69 members, compared with Mataura’s 36. It was decided to hold a picnic at Otamita on the second Saturday in March. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Gerken, McDonald, Stewart, W. D. Shelton and Murray was appointed to arrange the picnic. GORE AERO CLUB The Gore branch of the Southland Aero Club has decided to hold a field day on March 5 to mark the reopening of the aerodrome, which for some months has been undergoing extensive alterations. The ground has been levelled and sown down again in grass. At a meeting of. the club the opinion was expressed that the aerodrome should be officially opened and the public given an opportunity to inspect the club’s property. It was stated that aeroplanes from Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill had. been promised for the occasion, and it was expected that over 20 aeroplanes would take part in the field day.
