Money Markets THE STOCK EXCHANGES

Strong Demand For Government

Stocks At Invercargill

There was a strong demand for Government Stocks at current prices at yesterday’s callover on the Invercargill Stock Exchange. A steady inquiry came for banking and industrials shares. Insurance and mercantile shares were quiet with more sellers than buyers and metal shares were steady at improved prices.

Quotations were: GOVERNMENT DEBENTURES Buyers Sellers £sd £ s d Stock, 3J p.c, 1938-43 100 10 0 Stock, 31 p.c., 1938- 101 5 0 Stock, 3J p.c., 1939- 100 10 0 Stock, 31 p.c., 1939-52 101 5 0 Stock, 4 p.c., 1946 102 10 0 Bonds, 4 p.c., 1946 102 10 0 Stock, 4 p.c., 1949 102 10 0 Bonds, 4 p.c., 1949 102 10 0 ■ —— Stock, 4 p.c., 1955 102 0 0 Bonds, 4 p.c., 1955 102 0 0 BANKS Commercial 017 2 National of New „ „„ _ Zealand 2 15 0 New South Wales 32 15 0 New Zealand 2 4 0 New Zealand Long “D” issue 19 0 BREWERIES N.Z. SYDNEY (Received January 14, 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 14. While the tone of the investment market is strong there is still a tendency to operate with caution on the Stock Exchange.

MELBOURNE An easier tone prevailed on the Stock Exchange today because of a weaker oversea market, but industrial prices continue to hold their pressure on Mount Morgans which closed weak.
