BLIND AND PARALYSED STATION OPERATOR
DEATH AT AGE OF 20 YEARS (United Press Association) GISBORNE, January 14. J. Parsons, the blind and paralysed boy operating radio station ZL2JO, Ormond, known to Australian and New Zealand amateurs as “Cousin Jimmy,” died this morning at the age of 20 years. He was crippled for 15 years and blind for 10. Though completely paralysed, without the use of any limbs, he devoted his life to radio, with the assistance of his mother, who turned the dials when required, thus encouraging him to take interest in something to keep his mind off his affliction. Radio amateurs over a wide area gave cash and parts for the assembling of a modern radio station, which operated under a special licence from the Government
