Stanley McCabe’s century on December 31 is his first against South Australia. From 1933 until the closing one in Sydney last season, he missed seven successive shield matches against that state. Imagine what the absence of such a player has meant to his state (says The Sydney Referee). In every match in which McCabe figured against the Adelaide stars he played at least one innings exceeding 50, save in the first in Sydney in 1929. He has not appeared against Victoria for four years, and has only twice played in Melbourne against that state. His best against Victoria in one match was scoring 106 and 103 not gut in Sydney in 1932.
