BUDGE DEFEATED BY VON CRAMM
EXHIBITION TENNIS AT SYDNEY (Received December 27, 11.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 27. A tennis match between Australia and Germany began today. The fixture between A. K. Quist (Australia) and G. von Cramm (Germany) was cancelled to permit the Sydney public to see the world’s No. 1 and No. 2—J. D. Budge (United States) and von Cramm —opposed in an exhibition game. The results were as follows: — J. Bromwich (Australia) defeated L. Henkel (Germany) 6-1, 6-1, 6-4. Von Cramm defeated Budge 6-1, 6-3. Bromwich was superior to Henkel in all departments with the exception of his service. He forced the German wide with fast ground shots and scored winners in the vacant court. Henkel s fastest serves and drop shots were easily returned and he was repeatedly passed at the net. The exhibition match was a very poor affair. Budge did not exert himself at any stage and appeared uninterested. Von Cramm served magnificently and was steady in the other departments of his game.
