JAPAN’S FRIENDSHIP WITH ALLIES
PROGRESS OF “PUNITIVE EXPEDITION” (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright) (Received December 27, 6.30 p.m.) TOKYO, December 26. At the ceremonial opening of the Diet the Emperor (Hirohito) expressed gratification at Japan’s relations with the Powers to which she is bound by treaty. The Emperor noted the growing friendship and cordiality that were becoming apparent. “Our officials and men are winning every battle and are enhancing their military prestige both at home and aboard,” said the Emperor. The nation is solidly behind the guns. We are'confident of attaining our ultimate objective by depending upon the unswerving loyalty and devotion of the whole nation.” The Address to the Throne referred to Japan’s “punitive expedition steadily progressing, with every promise of the establishment of peace in the Far Edst.”
