Mr Norton Francis, of Christchurch, has been elected chairman of the council of the New Zealand School of Agriculture and representative of the council on the New Zealand University Senate.—Press Association. The appointment of Professor T. A. Hunter, Professor H. G. Denham, Professor F. W. Hilgendorf and Messrs J. R. D. Johns, W. O. Rennie, R. A. Candy, A. Morton and H. D. Mr Colin Kidd, formerly of Invercargill, has accepted a position in Dunedin.

Mr John Reid, secretary of the Wellington Timber Workers’ Union, will arrive in Invercargill today and will attend the annual meeting of the Southland Sawmill Workers’ Union tomorrow. Mr Reid is also a member of the Wellington City Council. Mr F. Turley, general secretary of the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Federation, will arrive in Invercargill today to attend the thirty-seventh annual meeting of the Southland Sawmill Workers’ Union tomorrow. Mr Turley will ask the Southland union to pass a motion to affiliate with the Dominion Federation of Timber Workers.

Mr James Egan, from the New Zealand institute for the Blind, Auckland, will arrive in Invercargill today. Mr Egan has been in Auckland for 10 years and before then was a resident of the Western District of Southland. He intends spending a month with friends in Southland.
