KEENER TRACK WORK

Sea Lady Gallops

Well

YESTERDAY MORNING’S OPERATIONS

The weather was again fine for training work on the Invercargill tracks yesterday morning when the majority of the Dunedin candidates were galloped. The work was divided between the No. 1 plough and the course proper, the poles being 20 feet out on the latter. ON THE PLOUGH Burwood (Boyle) ran seven furlongs on his own in Imin 44sec. It was a .useful working gallop on the part of the Woodend gelding, who is in forward order.

Galleon (Preston) and Amelita (Baker) finished together over a mile in Imin 49 2-ssec. They ran the first two in 28sec, the half in 56sec and the last half in 53 2-ssec. Galleon has been infusing more dash into his work, while Amelita consistently gallops well. Grey Seal (R. Humphries) beat Baitruin (Strathearn) over seven furlongs in Imin 35 2-ssec, the first two ; in 28sec, three in 41sec and the last half in 54sec. It was a useful effort on tire part of Grey Seal and he is well forward for coming engagements. Mona’s Song (Baker) ran half a mile on her own in 53 l-ssec.

Boswell (R. Humphries) was galloping well within himself when he headed Bonazel over six furlongs in Imin 23 l-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. Boswell’s work has been good enough to suggest that he will be heard from at Dunedin.

Irish Birdcatcher (Baker) ran seven furlongs on his own in Imin 39 2-ssec, the last half in 54 3-ssec.

Waitoru (Jennings) shaded Alms (Preston) over half a mile in 51sec. Waitoru appeared to be going the better at the finish, but the British Empire filly hung on well. ON THE COURSE PROPER Western Song (C. Humphries) jumped off at the six-furlong post and was picked up by Sea Lady (Barclay) at the five. Western Song ran the first .furlong in 13sec, the -pair reached the quarter in 25sec, three furlongs in 37 2-ssec, the half in 50sec, and the six in Imin 17 4-ssec. They finished together. It was a particularly good gallop as the poles were well out and Western Song hung on well, considering he has not had a great deal of galloping. Sea Lady’s effort was a pleasing one as she ran the five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec. The sister to Sailing Lady should keep a novice field busy during the holidays, and he is. well placed at Wyndham. Lochie River (W. Ellis) ran five furlongs on his own in Imin 8 l-ssec. Sailing Lady (Barclay) was sent over a mile in a solo effort. She ran the first three furlongs in 40sec, the half in 53 4-ssec, and the mile in Imin

48sec. The last half was run in 54 l-ssec, but she would have done even better had she had something to bring her home. She is very well. Ardchoille (Rowland) also went out on his own to run a mile. The first three furlongs took 44sec, the half in 58sec and the mile in Imin 52sec, the last four in 54sec.

Trebleack (Barclay) galloped a mile on his own in Imin 54 2-ssec, the first four in 54sec and the last half in 55 2-ssec. He is not engaged at Dunedin. Paladino (Barclay), Milford (R. Humphries) and Ocean Singer (Strathern) were responsible for the best work of the morning over the distance when they ran a mile in Imin 46 2-ssec. The first three were run in 41sec, the half in 54 l-ssec and the last four in 52 2-ssec. Milford had half a length to spare from Paladino, with Ocean Singer a length back at the finish. Milford is not far from his best, while Paladino has been galloping consistently well.
