GOVERNMENT BUILDING IN AUCKLAND
CONSTRUCTION WORK TO BEGIN AFTER HOLIDAYS (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. The tender for the building on Jean Batten Place, which is to replace the old Shortland street Post Office, demolished over a year ago, and house Government departments, has been let to the Fletcher Construction Company, and work on the excavations will be begun immediately after the holidays. It was stated, on behalf of the firm, that the tender is for the foundation work, the basement work, and also the structural steel work for the full height. A feature of unusual interest is that the steel frame will be welded instead of tiveted. The contract price is about samoo.
