DISTRIBUTION OF £157,000

FIRST WOOL SALE AT AUCKLAND

SUM OF £439,270 OBTAINED LAST YEAR (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 10. A sum estimated at about £157,000 will go into circulation tomorrow, the prompt date for the distribution to growers in the Auckland province of the first of the new season’s wool cheques on account of the Auckland sale held on November 27. This compares with £439,270 obtained at the opening auction last year and £240,154 at the corresponding fixture in 1935.

At the time of the auction it was estimated that there had been a clearance of only about 30 per cent. However a number of growers sold later by private treaty and it is now expected that the final figures will show a clearance of about 45 per cent. From preliminary calculations the average price a bale should be about £l4. This compares with £2O 10/6 a bale received for the first sale last season and £l2 2/- a bale from the November fixture in 1935. The figure for last year was exceptional, being the highest since £22 11/- was paid in 1928.
