ACCIDENTS TO HAWKER DEMON PLANES
OPEN INQUIRY REFUSED BY AUSTRALIAN MINISTER
CANBERRA, December 9.
Requests made in the House of Representatives for an open inquiry into the recent series of accidents to Hawker Demon planes in the Royal Australian Air Force have been refused by the Government. The Minister of Defence (Mr H. V. Thorby) said the Government considered the Hawker Demons to be airworthy and did not propose to impose a ban on their use.
Eight Hawker Demon planes crashed within nine days, and Mr Thorby announced on Tuesday that an official inquiry had been opened.
