SECOND GRADE PAT BUTTER

WHOLESALE PRICE RAISED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 9. The price of second grade pat butter throughout New Zealand from December 30 will be 1/2} a lb wholesale, an increase of |d. The alteration is announced in an Order-in-Council contained in the Gazette tonight. All other prices of butter for the local trade remain the same. It is stated that because of the greater manufacturing efficiency of the industry, coupled with a dry season, the quantity of second grade butter has diminished to a point where factories are finding it difficult to supply the consumer demand for this commodity —thus the necessity of narrowing the margin between first and second grades. It is also stated that the price order will in no way affect the consumers’ cost of standard brands of first grade quality.

The retail price of butter will not be affected by this increase. At present the price of second brand pat butter is 1/1%, and for best brand l/2>i.
