WELLINGTON, December 10. A special Christmas allocation of art union surplus profits is being made by the Government to a number of institutions in the Dominion doing philanthropic work. The bodies whose work will benefit in the distribution of the funds, which total £9400, and the amount allocated to each are:— New Zealand Crippled Children s Society, £lOOO. Special relief not otherwise provided for: Thames, £75; Gisborne, £75; Westport, £75; Greymouth, £5O; Christchurch ' (includes New Brighton), £500; Dunedin, £300; Invercargill, £75; Stewart Island, £5O. “There can be no question about the worthiness of the work of the bodies allotted grants,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry). “With the knowledge that the money will be well spent the Government is glad to have these surplus funds on hand to present to institutions.” The Minister mentioned that this special allocation was quite apart from the usual £5OOO paid from the profits of each £5OOO alluvial gold art union conducted in New Zealand to mayoral relief funds.
