OBITUARY
THE HON. D. BUDDO FORMER MINISTER OF THE CROWN (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, December 8. The death has occurred of the Hon. David Buddo at the age of 81 years. He was a former member of the House of Representatives and later of the Legislative Council. He was Minister of Internal Affairs from 1908 to 1912 and for a time was acting Minister of Lands. Mr Buddo collapsed in a city office and died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. DR T. W. PAIRMAN The death occurred at Governor’s Bay of Dr Thomas Wyld Pairman, L.R.C.P. and S., Edinburgh. Dr Pairman was born on January 20, 1859, his father being Dr Robert Pairman, of Biggar, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was educated at the Biggar High School, Edinburgh High School, and Edinburgh University. Before he came to New Zealand in 1886, Dr Pairman practised medicine at Biggar, and also at Stogumber, Somersetshire. On his arrival in New Zealand he spent four years practising at Te Awamutu and later 15 years at Lyttelton. During this time he was surgeon to the gaol. He was also surgeon to the police force, the Masonic Lodge, and the Garrison Artillery Volunteers, in which he held the rank of major. Dr Pairman was also a member of the Lyttelton Town Council and of the Masonic Fraternity Lodge. After his retirement, Dr Pairman visited Scotland for two years. He settled in Governor’s Bay on his return in 1908. Here he took a great interest in the life of the community, and used to teach the younger members science, languages and literature. Dr Pairman is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs C. E. Just, of Invercargill.
