TEMPERANCE UNION

A temporary cessation in temperance work for two months by members of the South branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union ended when they met in the Grace street hall and completed arrangements for the tea and rest rooms at the Invercargill Show. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Miss McCallum; vice-presidents, Mesdames Walker, Cole and Holmes; correspondence and recording secretary, Mrs Reidy; treasurer, Miss Griffiths; cradle roll superintendent, Mrs Crozier; evangelist superintendent, Mrs Richards, with Mrs Holmes as deputy; backblocks superintendent, Miss McCallum; white ribbon agent, Mrs Pate; Maori superintendent and decorative art, Mrs John Richards; notable days, Mrs Lambourn; musical, Mrs Lea; custodian of hall equipment, Mrs Latham; birthday league, Miss J. McCallum; sick visiting, Mrs Dale, Mrs Grenfell assistant; social committee, Miss J. McCallum (convener), Mesdames Bell, Richards, Dale, Grenfell and Drake. Nurse Griffiths was nominated as the union’s representative on the council.
