WEDDING
THOMSON—COUPER The wedding was solemnized in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, last Saturday, of Ruth Eleanor, only daughter of Mrs J. Cartwright (Spar Bush) and the late Mr Couper, to Frank Merrie, eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Thomson, Otautau. The church was decorated with roses and lilies. The Rev. Rodger, Waianiwa, was the officiating clergyman, and Mr E. Jellyman was organist. The bride, who entered the church with her step-father, Mr J. Cartwright, wore a dress of cream satin, cut on long slimming lines with a pleated train. Her tulle veil fell from a band of lily of the valley, and she carried a bouquet of cream roses and rhododendrons. The bridesmaids were Misses Margaret Dalrymple and Isla Cartwright, who wore twin frocks of deep cream taffetas. Their headbands were to match and they carried fans of taffetas trimmed with red roses. Their bouquets were of red roses. Mr James Thomson was best man, and Mr James Couper was groomsman. During the signing of the register, Mr E. Service sang the solo, “The Ploughman,” and at the reception he sang “Shipmates For Ever.” The reception was held at Elmwood Garden, where the guests were received by Mrs Cartwright, who wore a black ensemble with a floral coatee, and a black Jack Tar straw hat. She carried a bouquet of red and cream abutilons. She was assisted by Mrs Thomson, who wore a black and white frock with matching cape. Her black straw hat was relieved with white, and her
shoulder spray was of scarlet anemones. When the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon the bride was wearing a grey tailored costume, with grey hat and navy blue accessories. On their return Mr and Mrs F. M. Thomson will live in Otautau. Before the wedding the bride was entertained at several parties at Otautau, Spar Bush and Oraki.
