HISTORIC JOURNEY

A FILM EXPEDITION IN AFRICA The perils and hardships of film location work in those African wilds, traversed many decades since by Henry M. Stanley, and retraced by the 20th Century-Fox film expedition, making scenes for “Stanley and Livingstone” has forced a postponement of the release of that picture. One of the most ambition undertakings in recent years, “Stanley and Livingstone” will be Darryl F. Zanuck’s outstanding picture in the new season.

Wireless advices to New York, via Nairobi, Kenya Colony, have reported that the expedition, led by Mrs Osa Johnston, famous explorer and widow of Martin Johnston, had entered the remote regions of Tanganyika territory, following the trail that Stanley blazed in his historic safari to the relief of Dr David Livingstone, the famous Scottish missionary. Until they again return to their base at Nairobi, members of the film party will be in communication only lay radio with the outside world. It is estimated now that they will spend five months in Africa, instead of the three originally scheduled, and that there will be an additional three months of work on the picture in Hollywood after the location scenes have been brought back. Otto Brower, director is in charge of the filming operations. With him are eleven technicians from the studio. In addition, the party includes four assistants to Mrs Johnston, and more than two hundred native bearers.
