Mr D. Cuthbertson, who has been on a visit to England and the Continent returned to Invercargill by the express last evening. Mr R. T. Meredith, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, leaves for Wellington by the express this morning to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Council. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Messrs A. Grant (Fairlie), H. Anderson and J. Bushell (Christchurch), H. Oram, E. Raven, H. Sinclair, S. Owen and A. Douglas (Dunedin). Mr C. M. Wallace, who has been manager of the Gore branch of J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., for the past year, has received notice of his transfer to the position of manager of the Ashburton branch Mr Wallace will take up his new position early next year. He will be replaced by Mr J. Ward, of Auckland, who will arrive in Gore on January' 5.

Mr T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Association and the New Zealand Ship Owners’ Federation, who has been visiting Panama on a health trip has returned to Wellington. Mr T. G. A. Muntz, assistant British Trade Commissioner, who has received word of his transfer from Wellington, intends to leave New Zealand on January 20 to visit England on leave before proceeding to a European appointment.

Sir Richard Rankine, British Resident for the Zanzibar Protectorate since 1930, and Lady Rankine, formerly of Oamaru, are travelling to New Zealand by the Rangitane, which is due at Wellington from London on December 15.

Mr Duncan Darroch, the well-known New Zealand artist, has returned to the Hermitage, Mount Cook, having spent six months in the highlands of Scotland, the birthplace of his parents. He visited the Island of Jura, the home of the Darrochs. While there he painted the well-known range, the Paps of Jura.
