OUTSTANDING EXHIBITS AT GORE SHOW

STRONG SHEEP SECTION

Smaller Entries Of Dairy

Cattle

BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR PEOPLE’S DAY

An improved standard in the sheep section with greater competition from breeders outside the province than for several years was the outstanding feature of the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s fifty-sixth annual show which opened yesterday in fine weather. The cattle entries were below the numbers for recent shows and niany of the exhibits were rather low in condition as a result of the dry season, but the total entries showed a big increase on last year, heavier competition in the dairy produce and baking sections largely accounting for the higher total. There is an increase in the horse section, which will be judged today, there being a particularly full catalogue of draughts. When these exhibits are brought into the ring, there should be much to interest visitors to the show for People's Day and the fixture gives promise of setting a standard in keeping with the good reputation established in Eastern Southland.

The judging occupied the greater part of yesterday and the attendance was confined almost entirely to sheep and cattle breeders who followed the allotting of awards with much interest. The weather was warm and dull with clouds gathering during the afternoon, but expectations last night were for a fine second day.
