ART EXHIBITION OPENS TODAY
COLLECTION OF PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS
Art lovers of Invercargill will be given an opportunity this week of viewing one of the largest and most varied collection of paintings yet exhibited here. The versatility of the artist, Miss Charlotte Petrie, is shown in her exhibition of approximately 100 paintings and drawings, which include scenes from abroad, paintings from life, New Zealand scenery, flowers, animal studies, wash-drawings and delightful sketches. Miss Petrie, who is a member of the Otago Art Society, is an experienced artist, holding certificates from the Slade School, London University, where she has exhibited. She has travelled extensively and while in London was invited to exhibit at the British Women Artists’ Exhibition, which is visited by the Queen each year, and also in the New Zealand section of the overseas Coronation Exhibition. Her collection displays talent and charm and should attract large attendances of the public. The exhibition, which will be on view in the lounge of H. and J. Smith, Ltd., will be officially opened by the Mayor (Mr John Miller) tomorrow at 3 p.m.
