A bigger percentage of persons lost their lives in New Zealand waters than were killed on the roads of the Dominion, said the Mayor (Mr John Miller) last evening at the official opening of “Learn to Swim” week in Invercargill. “This should not be,” he said. “Especially should it not apply in this district where there are such splendid facilities for those wishing to take up swimming.” He emphasized the need for everyone, young and old alike to learn to swim.
