The engagement is announced of Cara, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Pinckney, Glenaray, Waikaia, to Peter, youngest son of Dr W. H. Unwin and the late Mrs Unwin, Church street, Timaru. Mr and Mrs P. E. Trevella, Don street, leave by the Maunganui today to spend a holiday in Melbourne. On their return to New Zealand they will visit relations in New Plymouth before returning home.

CELEBRATION AT OTAUTAU Mr and Mrs F. J. Stephens, Otautau, entertained a big number of friends in the Otautau hall on a recent evening to celebrate the coming of age of their only son, Duncan. Mr E. Jellyman provided the music for the dance. Mrs T. J. O’Neill played an extra, and Mr W. Sheedy was master of ceremonies. Items were given by Misses C. FUTURE BRIDE HONOURED In honour of Miss Margaret Robbie, Woodlands, who is shortly to be married, a big number of her friends met at a gift evening recently. The time was spent in dancing, to music supplied by Mrs G. Brown and extras were played by Mr J. Marr (Hedgehope). Miss M. Fahy sang solos and Messrs D. Macnicol and J. Trotter were masters of ceremonies. Mr W. CAMERON-MITCHELL

On Saturday, November 27, at First Church, the wedding was solemnized of Agnes Isabella (Isy), only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs R. W. Mitchell, to Colin Gray, third son of Mr and Mrs J. D. Cameron, McMaster street, Invercargill. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Eric Mitchell, wore a frock of ivory riche satin, cut on princess lines. The softly draped bodice was finished at the high divided neckline with a posy of blue forget-me-nots. Tiny buttons trimmed the back of the frock to slightly below the waistline. The sleeves, slightly gathered at the armhole and rounded over the hand, were tightly buttoned to the elbow. The princess lines of the skirt fell in folds from a peaked waistline in front to form a deep train. The ivory veil, arranged under a coronet of orange blossom, tinted to match, was worn over the face as the bride entered the church. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies.

The bridesmaids, Miss Margaret Hunter, cousin of the bride, and Miss Pearl Cameron, sister of the bridegroom, were dressed alike in frocks of pink rose patterned lace finished at the high necklines with small velvet collars, and having sashes to match, The bodices were finished at the back with tiny velvet buttons to the waistline and the short rucked sleeves were also trimmed with velvet buttons. Their hats had crowns of matching lace with wide brims of pleated tulle, slightly tilted at one side. In First iresbyterian Church on the evening of Tuesday, November 16, the wedding was solemnized of Doris Winifred, second daughter of Mr and Mrs William Winders, of Invercargill, to Leslie William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. T. Thompson, of Invercargill. The church was decorated with flowers and ribbons to match the colour scheme of the bridal party. The Rev. C. J. Tocker performed the ceremony, and Mrs A. F. Manning played the organ. Given away by her father, the bride wore a closely fitting gown of ivory cloque. The skirt was slightly framed, and the sleeves were puffed at the shoulders, finishing in peaks over the backs of the hands. The neckline was finished with a Peter Pan collar, and buttons fastened the bodice at the back, and continued round the waistline to each side. Lines of rucking running from the collar to the waistline decorated the bodice in front. Her veil was lent by her sister, Mrs D. B. Cameron, and her shoes were trimmed with sprays of orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaids were Miss Lylla Winders, sister of the bride, and Miss Molly Fell. They were dressed alike in frocks of primrose floral georgette with green sashes and shoes. On their heads they wore coronets of green wood pulp flowers and gold lame leaves. Their. bouquets were of abutilons and maidenhair fern. Mr Leslie M. Tobin was best man, and Mr Eric Winders, brother of the bride, was groomsman. Mr R. M. Thompson acted as usher. Shirley Cameron, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a frock of white courgette with silk net trimmed frills from waist to ankles. Her coronet was of flowers and tulle, and her bouquet was of abutilons and maidenhair fern. . The reception was held in Elmwood Garden, where the guests were received by Mrs Winders and Mrs Thompson. The former wore a naw blue silk tunic suit with hat and accessories to match. Mrs Thompson wore a brown model frock with a hip length brown broadtail coat and accessories to match. Both carried bouquets of abutilons and maidenhair fern.

For travelling the bride wore a navy blue pin striped tailored costume witli a pink satin blouse and navy hat and accessories.

Mr and Mrs L. W. Thompson will live in Invercargill. Before her marriage the bride was entertained at a pantry afternoon by Miss M. Fell, a wash-house party by Mrs R. M. Thompson, a china party by Mrs D. B. Cameron and a kitchen evening by Mr and Mrs A. King. At the church door the bride was presented with a horseshoe by Robin Steele, the gift of Mrs T. D. Marshall.

RIVERTON

Mrs P. A. Williams has returned from a holiday at Queenstown. Mrs F. Guise, with her son, has returned to Tuatapere after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs McFadgen, South Riverton. Miss M. Parker, of Invercargill, was the guest of Miss R. Walker, Great Western Hotel, last week. Mrs L. Officer, of Oamaru, is visiting Riverton.

Miss Hazel Pay, of Invercargill, was the guest of Miss Valma Martin, South Riverton, last week. Miss Joyce Williams has returned from a short visit to Lumsden. Miss O’Shea. Palmerston North, who
