CONDUCT OF HOTEL

NOTICE SERVED UPON LICENSEE (United Press Association) ROTORUA, December 3. Following receipt of a report from the police making certain allegations about the conduct of a hotel at Rotorua the licensing bench at its meeting today adopted the unusual course of carrying a resolution instructing the police to serve notice upon the licensee of the Tokaanu Hotel, John Atirau Asher, to attend a meeting of the committee on December 17 to show cause why he should not be dealt with under Section 104 of the Licensing Act which gives the committee power in certain circumstances to cancel a licence. The chairman of the committee (Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M.) said that it appeared to the committee that Asher had ignored previous warnings and the time had now arrived to take firm steps.

A report was received from the police making certain allegations about

the conduct of the hotel and it was intimated that Asher would be called upon to bring evidence in rebuttal of these charges.
