Mr Peter Harvey, secretary of the South Island Motor Union, leaves for Christchurch by car this morning. Mr C. Anderson Tyrer, examiner for the Trinity College of Music, London, left Invercargill by the express last evening.

Mr W. M. Norman left Invercargill for Wellington by the express last evening. Mr Norman will represent the Southland County Council at a sitting of the Assessment Court in Wellington this week. Mr W. R. Patrick has been appointed sole selector of the New Zealand women’s cricket team to tour Australia this summer. To facilitate the selection matches will be played at Christchurch on December 9 and 10, and at Wellington on December 24 and 26. Mr Patrick will leave for Christchurch tomorrow to see the first match and will later go to Wellington.

Cabled advice has been received in Dunedin that Mr Geoffrey Cox, who for some months has represented The Daily Express, of London, in Vienna, has been promoted special correspondent of his newspaper in Paris. Mr Cox, who is a son of Mr Sandford Cox, formerly of Invercargill, was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School and Otago University. He is a former Rhodes Scholar.

Flight-Lieutenant L. F. J. Taylor, son of Mr and Mrs W. L. Taylor, of Invercargill, who was killed in an accident while on service in Canada, was buried with full Air Force honours in the crypt at St. George’s Cemetery, Trenton (Canada) on November 25, according to advice received in Invercargill. The funeral party was commanded by a squadron-leader and consisted of a flight-lieutenant and 40 airmen, a firing party and one sergeant, one corporal and 10 Aircraftsmen, two trumpeters and a brass band of 30 players. The commanding officer of the station and one squadron-leader from headquarters represented the senior Air Force officers. Cards accompanying the wreaths are being forwarded to Flight-Lieuten-ant Taylor’s parents.
