Mrs H. E. Watson, Clifden, was a visitor to town yesterday. Misses I. and O. Adamson and J. Lightfoot, Tussock Creek, are spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mrs F. G. Hall-Jones was hostess at a tennis and garden party at her home, Lennel, yesterday afternoon. Mr and Mrs K. M. Keith, of Norfolk Island, are the guests of Mrs Keith’s sister, Mrs C. C. Munnings, Pomona road.

Miss Nancy Overton, Lora Gorge, who has been the guest of Mrs Hugh Carswell, River road, has returned to the country.

Miss Nancye Thompson, who has been the guest of Miss Patricia Macalister, Duke street, returns to Christchurch today. Mr and Mrs Norman Macalister return to Dunedin today from a short visit to Invercargill when they were the guests of Mrs Alan Macalister, Duke street.

Mrs C. R. Story and Miss Nonie Story (Venlaw), Mrs T. Menzies Watson (Morven), Mrs W. Swale (Limehills)

and Mrs J. L. Hazlett (Gretna Green) were visitors to town during the week.

After an absence of 12 months, Mrs Edmonds, formerly Miss Isobel Rattray, of Invercargill, arrived in Sydney, by the Orama on Thursday from a visit to Scotland, Ireland and Belgium. Mrs Edmonds will connect with the Awatea for New Zealand.

Miss Nancy Marshall, Racecourse road, who is shortly to be married, was given a kitchen evening by the residents of East road in the East road Mission Church on a recent evening. The time was spent in games and singing, and Miss Marshall received many useful gifts. Misses I. and E. Trotter entertained a few friends at their home Roslin, Woodlands, at a blue gift afternoon in honour of Miss Margaret Robbie who is shortly to be married. Those, present were Mesdames J. D. Trotter and A. O. Fleming; Misses M. Robbie, I. and E. Trotter, M. Pilcher (Invercargill), E. Gormack and Myrtle McLay. Miss Nellie Smith, Dip. H.Sc., of Wyndham, has been appointed teacher of home science subjects in the Hamilton Technical College and will take up her duties in February. Miss Smith received her training as student and as student teacher in the Southland Technical College and then at Otago University. Her teaching experience was gained in Masterton and Southland Technical Colleges. During the present year she has been a part-time teacher in the Southland college. The parishioners of All Saints’ Church, Gladstone, met in the Tudor Lounge on a recent afternoon to bid farewell to Mrs G. M. Polson,. Alice street, who leaves shortly to live at Darfield, Canterbury. The Rev. S. Hurd, in presenting a gold wristlet watch to Mrs Polson, spoke of the work she and her children had done for the church for a number of years. Table napkin rings were presented to the Misses June and Bunty Polson, and Mr Pat Polson received a gold eversharp pencil.
