CHURCH PARADE OF BOYS’ BRIGADE

FOUNDERS’ DAY CELEBRATED The annual Founder’s Day church parade of the Southland Battalion cf The Boys’ Brigade took place yesterday afternoon. The battalion, under the command of Mr F. H. Lambeth, assembled on the Gala street reserve, and marched to the front of the soldiers’ memorial, where the inspecting officer, Lieutenant A. R. Cockerill. D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., was received and inspected the boys. A wreath was then laid on the memorial in memory of the old boys of The Boys’ Brigade who died in the Great War, Messrs J. Roderique and J. S. Filippini receiving the wreath on behalf of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The parade, which totalled 130, headed by the Salvation Army band, marched through Dee and Tay streets to First Church, where the service was conducted by the Rev. J. A. Thomson, assisted by Pastor V. C. Stafford and the Rev. R. D. McEwan.. Mr Thomson spoke to the boys on doing their duty in everyday life and thus preparing themselves for the big tasks that lay ahead. Private Ewan McEwan (4th Southland Company) sang a solo. After the service the parade re-formed and marched into Tay street, where it was L dismissed.
