RANSOM PAID IN VAIN
KIDNAPPING OF PUBLISHER CHICAGO, October 19. G-men revealed that a ransom of 50,000 dollars was paid in a vain effort to obtain the return of Charles Ross, aged 72, a retired greeting card publisher, who was kidnapped on September 25. They expressed the opinion that Mr Ross, who was a sufferer from hea.t disease, was dead, and started an active search.
