CADET TRAINING IN SCHOOLS

GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE TO SPECIALIST WORK (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 20. The decision of the Government to abandon specialist training in cadet units of secondary schools is not general in its application according to a statement made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) in reply to a question raised by Mr J. Hargest (Nat., Awarua). The Minister’s statement was made in the course of a series of ministerial replies which were circulated in the House of Representatives today. “It is not intended that all specialist work should be eliminated from cadet training,” said Mr Jones, “but it is desirable that such training should be of general value to cadets as future citizens. In addition it is intended to enlarge the syllabus of physical training.”
