TRAINING WORK AT TRENTHAM

GOOD TRIAL RUN BY BOOMERANG (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 19. Conditions could not, have been more ideal for galloping than they were at Trentham this morning, but not a great number of visitors is yet on the scene and there was not a lot of work for so close to the meeting. The plough and the outside of the course proper were used, the going being fast on the former and a trifle dead after frost on the latter. The distances are correctly flagged on the course proper at Trentham. The larger trials were done on the course proper and the best of them from a time point of view was probably that of Boomerang and Cerne Abbas, who ran a mile in 1.40 3-5, the halves being done in 0.50 and 0.50 3-5 respectively, with Boomerang finishing a shade in front. Cuddle and Small Boy took 1.41 1-5 for a similar trial, Cuddle, without being pushed, being a neck ahead at the post after doing halves in 0.49 4-5 and 0.51 2-5. Both these horses look very well, but Small Boy’s trainer states his charge might yet miss the Wellington meeting and be reserved for the New Zealand Cup. Another trial over a mile saw Arctic King, Might, Shy, Hunting Cat and Southern Blood in association and after Shy had seen most of the pace Arctic King came through from the back and beat Might by half a length, with Shy a length further back, and the other pair handy. The distance took them 1.41 3-5 (halves in 0.49 3-5 and 0.52). Fairy Dale finished resolutely to beat Rockingham by a length and a-half over five furlongs in 1.5, the last halfmile in 0.50 3-5, but Rockingham was star-gazing in the straight. Myriam took 0.51 2-5 for the last half-mile of seven furlongs. Parry and Hamarin ran half a mile in 0.52 3-5. Siegmund remained with Mother-in-Law over the closing stages of six furlongs in 1.21. The last half-mile was run in 0.52 2-5. Raroa left half a mile behind in 0.49 3-5. GOOD HALF-MILE BY SUNEE The plough track was used for fast trials only by the early workers and nothing equalled Sunee’s half-mile in 0.49 when beating Good Sun by a length and a-half. Good Sun, however, was pleasing in defeat as Sunee is very well at present. Debham was going a shade better than Royal Chief at the end of six furlongs in 1.1 3-5; the last half-mile being run in 0.51. Tidewaiter was half a length in front of Stargono after running the last halfmile or five furlongs in 0.49 3-5. Several two-year-olds came down the straight, but there were no serious trials. Among the number were Protector, Peerless, Rakahanga, Diareus, Twenty Grand, Beanly and War Cloud. Red Sun (E. Burgess) jumped four fences in his usual faultless style. Polabian (D. W. Bush) gave the best display yet over four fences. Blue Tiger (C. McGovern), looking well, went twice over two fences away from the sun.

Other visitors on the tracks included Brunhilde, Taro, Geira, La Touquet, Ohanga, Ngatirahiri, Ben Braggie, Black Thread, Tiger Gain, Journet, Anubis, Surmount and Soho. The lastnamed, particularly, is looking very fit.
