SCATTERED RAINS DEVELOPING

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate but freshening northeasterly to north-westerly winds. Weather clouding over and scattered rains developing, more especially in coastal and vzestem areas. Temperatures mild. Seas moderate, but rising in the west. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine, but cloudy and wifli isolated showers or misty rain in the east coast areas. Some rain developing also in the far south-west and south. Temperatures mild. General Situation.—New Zealand is still located between a rather deep cyclone centred far to the north-east and a complex low pressure area covering the western Tasman Sea. Pressure is high and changing little over the Dominion. Winds.—South-east to east prevailing north of Westport and Kaikoura, light to moderate mainly but strong in parts of Cook Strait and in places between Cape Palliser and the East Cape. Elsewhere variable, with north-east to north predominating, and freshening in the far south. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough in parts of the Cook Strait area and the east coast of the North Island. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong northerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas.
