LICENCE CANCELLED FOR A YEAR A fine of £2O and the cancellation of his driving licence for 12 months was the penalty imposed on Thomas Anderson, a gardener, when he appeared before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car. He pleaded guilty. Sergeant O'Shea said that just after 6 o’clock on the previous evening the main highways traffic inspector (Mr L. Edwards) noticed a car parked on the wrong side of the road near the Lorneville store. He stopped his car alongside the other, which then moved off and the inspector was obliged to turn and follow. The car pursued an erratic course and when be stopped it he found that the driver, Anderson, was intoxicated. At the police station he was examined by Dr Barclay, who certified that he was unfit to drive a motor-vehicle. In the car was found

two bottles of beer, a bottle of stout and a bottle of whisky. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £2O, with 12/6 costs and cancelled the defendant’s driving licence for one year.
