LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

HIGHER VALUES FOR CATTLE

PRICES IMPROVE BY £2 A HEAD NO CHANGE IN FAT SHEEP MARKET A smaller entry of fat cattle, which included some beasts of very good quality, enabled the fat cattle market to make an excellent recovery at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday, and the sale was probably the best of the season. Last week there was a slight easing in values, but yesterday prices improved in many cases by £2 a head. The firmness of the market was caused partly by the competition of country butchers and outside operators. There was a fuller yarding of fat sheep and although an easing tendency was apparent early in the sale, values finished quite on a part with recent rates. An increased quantity of lambs was yarded and values were somewhat easier.

Following is a comparative table of the yardings of the last two sales: —

Included in yesterday’s yardings were 21 fat lambs, 20 dairy cows, three bulls and three vealers.
