Mrs J. D. Gilmore, Don street, has returned from a holiday in Australia.
Mrs. H. J. Macalister, Duke street, leaves tomorrow to spend a holiday in the North Island.
Miss Hilda Nichol, Castle Downs, Dipton, has returned from a short visit to Christchurch.
Miss Phyllis Rule, Mataura Island, is spending a holiday with relations m Wellington and Christchurch. Miss Mary Kirkwood has returned to Auckland after an extended holiday with her parents at South Hillend.
Mrs C. B. Broad, Hensley street, leaves today to spend a holiday in the North Island.
The Hon. Thomas O’Byrne, M.L.C., and Mrs O’Byme, Dalrymple street, return today from Wellington.
Miss Eileen O’Byme, Dalrymple street, has returned from a holiday in Wellington and Timaru.
Mrs W. T, Cunningham, Castle Downs, Dipton, returns tomorrow from Wellington.
Mr and Mrs A. L. Wylie, Esk street, have returned from a visit to their son, Dr T. Wylie, Waimate. Mr and Mrs G. A. Jenkins, Wrights Bush, have left by car to spend an extended holiday in the north. Mr and Mrs P. B. Bryden, Park street, leave today to live in Christchurch.
Mrs W. Wadworth, Warwick Downs, is spending a holiday with, her sister, Mrs Roger Bakewell, Wellington.
Miss Ellen Oliver, leaves on Wednesday on her return to Christchurch after a visit to her mother, Mrs W. A. Oliver, Holywood Terrace.
Mr and Mrs I. Wilson, who have been spending a holiday at Mataura Island as the guests of Mrs W. J. Rule, have returned to Wellington. Mrs H. W. Royds and Miss Marian Royds, Christchurch, and formerly of Invercargill, have left to spend a holiday with Mrs Douglas Irving, Palmerston North, and formerly of Otautau.
The engagement is announced of Constance Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. D. Peterson, Athol, to William Leslie, only son of Mr . and Mrs E. Tonks, Hyde street, Dunedin.
The London correspondent of The Otago Daily Times, writing on August 21, says that Miss F. Anderson and Miss
C. M. Burn, of Invercargill, have been motoring in Great Britain, and today they leave for an extended tour of the Continent.
Mrs H. W. Kirkby, Tauranga, who, after visiting her mother, Lady Anderson, Victoria Park, has been the guest of Mrs Robert Stout, Timaru, and formerly of Invercargill, has left for the north. Mrs Stout is paying a short visit to her mother, Mrs W. Gunn, Aiknian’s road, Christchurch. Visitors to Invercargill for the Southland women’s golf championship included Mesedames G. C. Hamilton, J. J. Perry, J. Brown, J. Ross, Piper, Ritchie and the Misses K. Church, I. Rhodes, K. Jopp and West (Gore); Mesdames O. A. B. Smith, Clark, Brandford, G. King and the Misses I. Shand, Tilley and Homer (Winton), and Mrs F. Duncan (Alexandra). The Dominion women’s golf championship will be held this year in Napier from September 30 until October 8. A number of the members of the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club intend to visit Napier for the fixture. They will include Mesdames J. A. Pottinger, William Handyside, F. G. HallJones, J. D. Speirs, H. T. Thompson, F. M. Corkill and the Misses L. Henderson, C. Smith and L. Douglas.
