GOVERNMENT MONEY STOLEN
CLERK PLEADS GUILTY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, September 16. Allen Leonard Oakes, a clerk, aged 31 years, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to the theft of sums totalling £123 10/- from the New Zealand Government and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. A married man with five children, employed for five years in the Employment Division of the Labour Department, he admitted having tampered with relief-payment sheets and drawn money by means of false documents.
