While in Wellington the Mayor intends to confer with the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department regarding matters in which that department is concerned in any changeover from trams to buses that may later take place. He will endeavour also to see the Minister of Employment about subsidies on works which the council has under consideration.'

The Mayor’s relief depot, which has been able to function and give considerable help to those .in distress throughout the depression, is now very near the end of its financial resources, and it is the intention of the Mayor to confer with the Minister of Internal Affairs to ascertain if an arrangement can be made to enable this service to be continued. On his return to Invercargill the Mayor will call a further meeting of the centennial memorial _ committee which was set up at a meeting of representatives of Southland local bodies and organizations in August 1936.
