CAP PILAR LEAVES AUCKLAND
CAPTAIN AND CREW ENJOY STAY
(United Press Association)
AUCKLAND, September 17. In brilliant sunshine and with a moderate but steady breeze blowing up from the south-south-west the 300-ton barquentine Cap Pilar cast off from the Western Viaduct this afternoon and under her own sail moved down the Waitemata harbour and out towards the open sea in continuation of her cruise around the world.
Within a few minutes of leaving her berth she had a good press of canvas aloft and when she rounded the North Head and turned into Rangitoto Channel she had attained a smart five knots Before leaving Captain Seligman said he and his crew had greatly enjoyed their stay at Auckland where they had received many kindnesses. He was confident the New Zealanders who had joined would prove satisfactory in every way as they were an excellent body of men.
Captain Seligman added that his wife and daughter were in excellent health and he was sure the trip would agree with them. From Mangarewa the vessel will go to the Marquesas Group and later to Hawaii and San Francisco. She will eventually return to London by way of Panama, the West Indies and New York.
