RETURNING TO SYDNEY
ANNETTE KELLERMAN PROPOSAL
Annette Kellerman who a generation ago made Australia famous as the home of beautiful women, who shocked and delighted America with her onepiece bathing costume and superb diving, and who is at present recognized as the foremost pageant director in the United States, is homesick, and intends returning to Sydney during the next few months.
Annette specializes in water pageants and was recently congratulated by President Roosevelt on her production of a superb natatorial extravaganza at Atlantic City, which attracted crowded audiences.
Miss Kellerman, in a letter to Mr Dudley Hellmrich, publicity director, of the British Empire Games, 1938, offered to stage a gigantic water pageant in connection with the Games swimming carnivals.
It is to be regretted that the Empire Games Organizing Committee cannot accept Miss Kellerman’s offer of assistance, as the carnivals will be devoted entirely to competitive events, but it has been decided to refer the matter to the Minister in Charge of Celebrations, the Hon, J. M. Dunningham, who almost certainly will welcome the assistance of the brilliant Annette in arranging the pageants for the 150th anniversary celebrations.
