PLACE KICKING OF BRAND

CAREFUL SELECTION OF BALL Those who saw G. H. Brand, the famous oSuth African full-back, taking his kicks at goal at Carisbrook could not fail to be impressed with the careful supervision he exercised in the placing of the ball, the cool and confident manner in which he took his kicks, and the remarkable success he achieved. Brand’s precautions in trying to secure success in his placekicking are, however, not confined to the actual playing area. The Otago Rugby Union had to submit six new balls to Brand for him to make a selection of three for the game against Otago. Having picked the three he favoured he put his signature on each, presumably to make sure that he obtained these three. An examination of the three balls rejected left one wondering how anyone could come to any conclusive decision in making a selection from six, says The Otago Daily Times. The three rejected appeared to be of the same size, length, formation, etc.
