OBITUARY

mr f. d. McGovern (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 17. Best known for his hearty personality and wide interests in sporting activities Mr Frank Daltoi. McGovern, manager of the Auckland branch of the Bank of New South Wales, died this morning in a private hospital at the age of 62 years. Mr McGovern underwent an operation on September 3 and for a time he rallied but later complications set in. Mr McGovern was educated at Wellington College, where he was captain of the school first fifteen for a number of years. He entered the service of the Bank of New South Wales at Christchurch in 1894 and soon rose to the position of accountant at the Auckland branch. He opened the new branch at Newton and was successively manager at Whangarei, Dannevirke and Timaru and assistant-manager at Auckland. He was appointed manager at Auckland in 1928, which position he held until the time of his death. In view of his long association with the bank he was recently invited 1 y his principals to make a tour of Australia from which he returned to resume hi' duties in May this year. He was a member of the Auckland Racing Club and the Glendowie Golf Club. He was also associated with the Northern and Auckland Clubs. He was a keen supporter of Rugby, golf and racing, particularly. His death will be widely regretted. Mr McGovern leaves a widow but no children.
